Club News.... Once again the Clubs Committee attended another meeting with representatives of DCLT regarding the future of Adwick Swimming Club and our Learn to Swim programme, whatever the final outcome of these proposals set out to be implemented in April, you can be assured that every Volunteer within the Club who gives up their spare time will continue to provide the very best for all our Members.
Teaching & Squad News....Congratulations to the all swimmers who made the move up our Squad system in March as Wesley Johnson & George Arthur move into full competition training with B Squad and more changes within A Squad as “Robyn Warman, Amy Wilson, Hannah Cusack-Hughes and Deven Fairhurst,” take the opportunity to join in with the Monday evening trials.
On the Competition side.... March was a busy month on the gala front as we saw several of our swimmers compete in the Yorkshire Sprints Championships under DARTES; swimmers must have gained qualifying times to compete in this event, so everyone who qualified should be extremely proud of their achievements……Congratulations to Robbie Casson & Shannon Dodson who were both crowned 50m Backstroke Champions and Oliver Vodden 50m Breaststroke Champion.
DARTES also attended the Sheffield Premier Meet at Ponds Forge….A full gala report and times of both Galas are available on the DARTES website….Once again congratulations to every swimmer who competed.
March also brought 3 galas in both our League campaigns, first up the Barnsley Minors League, last year saw Adwick crowned Champions of the Division 1, could we repeat this in 2013?....A Home tie got us under way with a hard fought battle with all four Clubs putting in some great team performances and close races, final results saw us come away with a well-deserved victory by just 5 points..Final Points... ADWICK…183, SHEFFIELD CITY…178, ROTHERHAM METRO…171, STOCKSBRIDGE…150.
Next up was the Home tie in the Pocklington Times League, again a determined team spirit and some fantastic individual performances on Saturday the 23rd saw us finish in a very respectful 2nd place just behind eventual winners Armthorpe….Final Result….. ARMTHORPE…153, ADWICK…131, WAKEFIELD…101 & ASKERN SPA…84 Points.
The next day it was off to Ponds Forge for the 2nd BML fixture, another fantastic team effort helped us come away with a 2nd place finish just behind winners Sheffield...Final Points...SHEFFIELD CITY…186, ADWICK…180, ROTHERHAM METRO…167, STOCKSBRIDGE…149.
On the 3rd & 10th,74 of our swimmers took part in this year’s John Harriman Championships, some fantastic performances over the two galas saw a medal haul of 33 Gold’s, 39 Silvers & 40 Bronze being won with 173 personal best times and 17 speeding tickets awarded, a big thanks to everyone who helped out during both galas and congratulations to all that competed.
